World Series Game 1, Colorado at Boston

I think it’ll be a low scoring game (under 8.5), and the Rockies +1.5 looks like the main play for me.

5:45–Beckett strikes out the side. This is starting off great.

5:50–Pedroia gets a leadoff homer, followed by a Youkilis double. I love this because I KNEW it was coming. Good times.

5:51–We are living in a bizarro world where Ortiz is showing bunt in the World Series.

5:53–Manny wastes no time to single. 2-0 Sox. At this rate, the under will be annihilated in three innings.

5:58–Varitek with a hit with two out. Christ. This means…

6:00–Welcome to the world of clutch 2-out J.D. Drew. 3-0 Red Sox.

6:04–Thanks to more crazy infielding by the Rockies, they limit the damage to that.

6:08–Beckett is on his way to a 27 strikeout perfect game…wooohoo.

6:09–Fucking Fenway. The Monster prevents a home run and turns it into a double for Atkins.

6:11–Five strikeouts. I think I could spend the rest of this liveblog just counting strikeouts.

6:12–Thank God for Tulowitzki; double into the gap to make it 3-1. I’m more interested in the spread than the under, which will probably be obliterated anyway. Followed quickly by a groundout to Lugo.

6:20–Francis tends to be pretty solid after the first inning though, and he quickly strikes out Ellsbury and grounds out Pedroia.

6:22–Wonderful, a walk of Youks…wait, what the hell is a physics major doing starting Game 1 of the World Series?

6:25–Oh Christ. What the hell was that? How do you let the ball just roll past you? This is the NL MVP? 4-1 Sox.

6:28–Francis is not going to last three innings at this rate. Lowell bails him out by not challenging a strike and popping out.

6:29–4-1 after 2. I don’t know why I keep predicting the under anymore. I’m about 0 for 5 at this point.

6:32–Beckett’s starting to throw balls. Yeah, this under’s gone. He’s bailed out by a line drive to Pedroia.

6:34–Rain coming? Under is gonnnnne.

6:35–Manny just loves making ridiculous catches.

6:37–Thanks to the MLB.TV stream, I’m getting a thousand promos of Rudy and The Last Season. Is this preferable to Dane Cook? Yeah, I think so.

6:40–Varitek and Drew get taken out in order. Baseball is pretty low on my pecking order, since it’s one of those sports that is dependent on clear skies. Tennis and golf are similar. I’d be a thousand times more enthralled if athletes performed in the rain. Natural environment my friend.

6:46–Bunt base hit for Lugo. Yuck. Thankfully the Rockies get out unscathed.

6:49–Long rain delay. I’m praying for long rain delay. Right now they’re playing through it and one out.

6:51–Another double off the Monster. Someone drive someone home.

6:53–Curveball working well for Beckett…doesn’t get the call there on Helton.

6:54–That curveball does. Strikeout.

6:55–I’m slowly learning every name on the Colorado Rockies. This hitter happens to be Brad Hawpe. He happens to strike out again. Seven Ks for Beckett.

7:00–Tulowitzki with a bullet from shortstop to first. One out in the bottom of the 4th.

7:01–Matsui pops out. God, baseball is even boring to liveblog.

7:03–I should just shut up. Ortiz with a single to the opposite way. Probably means Manny smokes one here.

7:08–Double into the bullpen wall, and now 2nd and 3rd for Lowell. Fucccck.

7:09–Okay…they’re intentionally walking for Varitek. At least we can kill the under and the spread in one inning.

7:13–Varitek knocks Francis on a ground-rule double, 6-1 Boston. What a waste.

7:14–Drew strikes out. A little too late for my purposes.

7:18–This will probably be where the point where Beckett sets down fifteen in a row. Tulowitzki grounds out; he’ll be #5.

7:20–Looking on the breaking ball, that’ll be #6.

7:23–What the…okay, a walk. I didn’t expect that.

7:26–Took me two hours but I’m slowly nodding off. I don’t know how anyone watches this sport. Pop up to Pedroia to end the fifth. Both the under and the spread are on the verge of busted.

7:33–Since someone left something on the stove there is smoke gathering around my house and filtering out the windows, so for now I’m typing while kneeling. Morales is in for Francis.

7:35–Joe Buck is talking about free tacos. Bleh.

7:37–You know how the Rockies are never going to lose again? Kevin Youkilis is never going to stop hitting again. 7-1.

7:39–Under is gone, and I don’t see how the Rockies score 6 runs. But crazier crap has happened. Ortiz doubles for 8-1. Thanks for the eight day layoff MLB, this series will be over just in time for Monday Night Football.

7:40–Manny floater over the shortstop, 9-1.

7:43–”Nobody will ever really know what effect the eight day layoff had for the Rockies.” Hey, Joe, how about you look at the first five innings?

7:44–Uhh, why was Manny staying put at 2nd? Easily could have gone home. Not that I’m complaining. NINE extra base hits.

7:45–”Boy, everything has been up tonight for the Rockies.” Only Joe Buck can contradict himself within two minutes. Well, other than that guy sitting next to him.

7:47–Followed by a walk. Apparently the Rockies strategy is to let J.D. Drew end innings.

7:48–It’s an eight run game, which seems to be the perfect segway to talk about that 2004 Red Sox comeback.

7:49–RBI infield single for Drew. 10-1. Zombie invasion everyone. Perfect time for my stream to freeze, because I couldn’t give a crap anymore. It’ll be good background video. I’ll be back near the end.

8:35–ESPN’s stream>>>>FOX. That’s pretty much all the insight I’m capable of. Nice game for Beckett; should give an assist to those MLB officials who softened up the Rockes for him with that eight day layoff.

9:11–Red Sox 13, Rockies 1. What a pathetic Game 1. I swear if the rest of the games are like this, MLB should start paying us back.

MLB, 0-2, -3.0x
